Bird photography blessed with digital camera

By Jakob Jelling

Birds are some of the most fascinating living beings in this world and one of the most beautiful looking also! They can be very good spectacles and thus spurt a hobby in human beings to freeze their memorial moments in time forever using the art of photography. In the recent times innovations of the digital camera have brought up new techniques and have opened new horizons for the people interested in bird photography using digital cameras. Not having apparatus like 1000mm lens to go with SLR camera is thus not a worry at all! Only a spotting scope and a digital camera with an LCD display makes everything set for the shoot.

A very good practice in the area of bird photography using digital cameras is to focus the scope on a perched bird, or any other relatively stationary target and subsequently turn on the LCD display on the digital camera. Then the user or photographer must place the lens of the camera against the eyepiece of the scope and looking at the LCD display he or she must adjust the camera until it is flush with the eyepiece and you see the bird on the display. Then simply he or she must let the auto focus on the digital camera focus on this fantastic bird and ultimately take the timeless picture!

Making good manual adjustments is also a good alternative for bird photography using digital cameras and they can set their shutter speed to 1/300 or 1/500 to reduce vibration or camera shake. This can be very useful information for novice users who intend to practice bird photography using digital cameras. Suggestions can be extended to include the use of spot metering if the bird is going to be in the center of your field of view ensuring it will be bright enough in the photograph. It must be noted here to suggest the use of the pre focus option to speed up the picture recording. The technique can be described as to focus on the practice to depress the shutter partially until the camera focuses on the target and center the target or the bird on the LCD then depress the shutter fully. Again a person requires taking lots of shots before getting the perfect one! So patience is a virtue while taking bird photographs using digital cameras and the digital cameras make this process in the most feasible manner.

The most important digital camera issue to consider for bird photography is shutter speed, the amount of time a camera's eye, the lens, stays open to capture an image. Hence extra care requires to be taken. For example, a 3x optical zoom would translate into an approximately 100 mm focal length. Again, quicker shutter speeds, between 1/500 and 1/1000, will capture a clearer image of a hummingbird (or any other bird) in flight.

A lot has been discussed and equally a lot has been revealed as per information is considered regarding the issue of bird photography using digital cameras. And it can be expected that the yields and results are certainly positive as per end users or even photographers are considered.
